It is off to Venice today. We have had lots of sun and great weather finally got rid of the rain and thunderstorms. (Kind of like home with the heat). Our train leaves at 7:30 and gets into Venice after 2 changes at about 2PM. Due to meet our friends outside the actual island of Venice. A small change in plans and our friends went further on to the island.
Well one hour later, 2 telephone calls, missing two trains and getting permission to take a later trains and 4 flights of stairs with our packing light mode with meet our friends. Manipulate how to take the "packed" water taxi to the apartment we will be in for 4 nights. After an orientation to the apartment, an update on how the water taxi really run we are on our own and decide to go for dinner.
We venture out to a recommended restaurant. According to the "map" your walk it is 10 minutes a way, this should be doable. Unfortunately, walking through alleyways, across bridges we finally get to the restaurant. The 10 minutes was actually 25 minutes, oh well we are still training for the hike.
Getting home was a much larger problem. It turns out there was no street name and we were truly lost. It is now after 10:30 and our day started at 6:00AM. An attempt to call the owner and get the street name, we only have to ask 3 more people, were our section of town is located. Funny thing is it all looks different at night when all the stores are closed and no one is around.
Maybe hiring a private guide is not such a bad idea!
