Venice Day 3

Well as always I am several days behind.  Today started early we had to meet Mrs Ada at the Rialto Market.  This is a wide open market with several vendors, kind of like a street fair for food.  Now the question of the day; how are we going to find a little old lady with white hair and a shopping cart?  Well we did she was waiting by the vapporetto station.   Mr. Holmes needed to return to the apartment to get new batteries for his camera and the rest of us start are shopping trip.

First decision pasta or risotto, easy risotto we hadn't had any and it is a pain to make.  Next fish or meat, the choice fish.  We are off to the fish market, we pass by at least 3 other vendors, obviously Mrs. Ada knows who she wants to deal with.  She picks out large jumbo shrimp, asking if we like them, a pound of tiny baby type shrimp and the 2 fish called Orate.  The fish in the market are complete with head and tail and we have to convince Mrs. Ada that it is best she not prepare something that will look at you when you are eating it, she also assures us it is a mild white fish.  We are finished with the fish and she digs out the package of white fish, the fish monger cleans and takes off the head and tail for you.  Okay we may eat yet tonight.  Two more stops one for salad the other for the risotto and spices.  She then commandeers a shop keeper to speak with us in English and explain she will come over at 5 pm to cook and is it okay if she enters the apartment.  We agree as dinner must be served by 6pm since we are going to the opera tonight.

We meet Nicholas again to tour more of Venice.  At this point we are sure we can never make it home.  Seems unbearably hot to us with no breeze or air movement.  I have decided that one could make a lot of money selling ceiling fans and misting overhead devices.  A walk through the Jewish Ghetto and next to that the Moorish area.   It is great to have someone explain why things are the way they are, and point out architecture we may have missed.  Nicholas takes us to an out of the way pizza place, best tip of the day since 3 gondola drivers are having lunch.  We then walk back to the taxi stand and make arrangements for tomorrow since we need to go to the airport and the private taxi should be the most direct and fastest.
